Management-chemical control

  • permethrin (spray)-Follow label for dosage depending on severity of infestation and spray location. Spray affected areas or entire body or bedding. Re-treat after 4 to 6 weeks if needed. Remove feed and water while spraying. Do not treat more than once every 14 days.
  • permethrin pour-on (Boss)-Pour along backline. Apply 1.5 mL per 50 lb of body weight of animal up to a maximum of 18 mL for any one animal. Repeat as needed. Use no more than once every 2 weeks. Sheep only.
  • permethrin pour-on (Martin's Permethrin 1%)-Pour along backline and down face. Apply 0.5 fl oz per 100 lb body weight of animal, up to a maximum of 5 fl oz for any one animal. Sheep only.
  • permethrin pour-on (Ultra Boss)-Sheep: pour along back; Goats: pour along back and down face. Apply 1.5 mL per 50 lb of body weight of animal up to a maximum of 18 mL for any one animal. Repeat as needed. Use no more than once every 2 weeks. Sheep and goats.
  • permethrin dust (Y-Tex PYthon Dust)-Apply up to 2 oz (4 tablespoons) of dust per animal evenly into the hair over the head, ears, neck, shoulders, back and tailhead. Repeat as necessary but not more often than once in 3 days. Do not make applications during rain or if there is expected rainfall before the product has sufficient time to dry (minimum 4 hours). Sheep and Goats.
  • permethrin 1% + piperonyl butoxide 1% (Ecolab Aero-Max Synergized Permethrin, KattleGuard III, Martin's Permethrin 1% Synergized, Synergized Delice, and Synergized Permethrin)-Apply 0.25 fl oz (7.5 cc) per 50 lb body weight of animal, up to a maximum of 3 fl oz for any one animal. For optimum control, all animals in the flock should be treated after shearing. Use no more than once every 2 weeks. Sheep only.
  • pyrethrin + piperonyl butoxide (Evergreen Pro 60-6)-Dilute at a rate of 1 quart with 75 gal water and spray to thoroughly wet the hair of the animal including the head and brush the tail. Repeat treatment in 10 days to kill newly hatched lice. Sheep and Goats.
  • pyrethrin + piperonyl butoxide (Gordon's Aqueous Fly Spray)-Apply to the infested areas of the animal including the head and tail using a stiff brush to get the spray to the base of the hair. Repeat every 2 to 3 weeks if required. Do not apply more than 1 time per day. Do not apply microencapsulated product to lactating or food animals. Sheep and goats.
  • rosemary and peppermint oils (Essentria All Purpose)-Dilution: 1 to 3 fl oz per gal water or mineral oil USP. Dilute as indicated and spray directly on the animal in sufficient amounts for proper coverage. There is no withholding period from last application to slaughter. Sheep and goats.
