Preharvest foliage desiccation

carfentrazone (Aim EC)

Rate 0.03 to 0.06 lb ai/A (2.0 to 3.8 oz/A Aim EC)

Time Apply Aim EC alone or with other labeled herbicides for desiccation of clover seed crops.

Remarks Apply at a minimum application volume of 35 gal/A. Always add an adjuvant. See Aim EC label for minimum recommended additives.

Caution Do not harvest stands grown for seed for 3 days after application. Do not apply more than 3.8 oz of Aim EC per year.

Site of action Group 14: protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO) inhibitor

Chemical family Triazolinone

diquat (Reglone and others)

Rate 0.37 to 0.5 lb ai/A (1.5 to 2 pints/A)

Time For preharvest foliage desiccation, when clover seeds are mature.

Remarks Seed crops only. Desiccation is complete in 3 to 10 days.

Caution Do not graze or feed treated forage to livestock. Do not use seed from treated plants for food, feed, or oil.

Site of action Group 22: photosystem I electron diversion

Chemical family Bipyridilium

flumetsulam (Python)

Rate 0.033 to 0.0665 lb ai/A (0.66 to 1.33 oz/A)

Time Python can be applied to clover grown for seed at different growth stages for targeted weed control. For red clover, apply 0.66 oz/A preemergence or at the cotyledon stage for best dock control. From the four-trifoliate stage through establishment (Nov 1-Mar 1), apply 1.33 oz/A to red or white clover for control of Brassica species and suppression of mayweed chamomile and pineappleweed. In crimson clover, apply 1.33 oz/A between Nov 1 and Mar 31 from the two-trifoliate stage or larger to suppress seed production of tiny vetch, though plants will not be killed.

Remarks All applications of Python Herbicide in clover grown for seed must include a non-ionic surfactant at 0.25% volume/volume (1 quart/100 gal). Use a good quality surfactant with at least 80% active ingredient (of which at least 50% is actual non-ionic surfactant). Under extremely dry growing conditions, use of an agriculturally approved sprayable liquid nitrogen fertilizer together with the non-ionic surfactant, may enhance control. Use 28%, 30%, or 32% urea ammonium nitrate at 2.5% volume/volume (2.5 gal/100 gal). Note: Do not use liquid fertilizer solutions or suspensions as the total carrier because excessive crop injury may occur. Use only agriculturally approved surfactants.

Caution Postemergence applications of Python Herbicide may result in temporary chlorosis or yellowing of the clover leaves. Do not apply more than 1.33 oz/A of Python (0.0665 lb flumetsulam/A) per application and per year. Also, do not apply if rainfall is expected within 6 hr after application.
