Weed Management Handbook

carfentrazone-ethyl (QuickSilver T&O Herbicide EPA#279-3265)

Rate When used as a stand-alone product for silvery thread moss control use 6.7 fl oz/A or 0.154 fl oz/1,000 sq ft, with a second application after 2 weeks, at the same rate. The addition of a nonionic surfactant at a rate of 0.25% v/v can increase control of silvery thread moss.

Increasing your mowing height and increasing your mowing frequency will reduce weed occurrence in lawns. Increasing your mowing height provides a number of benefits, such as deeper rooting, which will translate to increased drought tolerance. Increasing the mowing height will also prevent weed seed germination. Weed seeds are constantly entering turfgrass, but establishment will be substantially reduced by increasing mowing height. The increased mowing height reduces the amount of sunlight that reaches weed seeds at the soil surface.

diquat (Reglone)

Rate 0.5 lb ai/A

Time Apply any time when weeds are small and actively growing.

Remarks Avoid spray contact with desirable ornamental plants. Acts as a contact; absorbs electrons after photosynthesis and recycles herbicide.

glufosinate-ammonium (several trade names)

Oregon only, grass weeds

Rate Fall broadcast: use 0.18 lb ai/A (10 oz/A Rely 280, Reckon 280, or Glufosinate 280); Spring broadcast: use 0.30 to 0.37 lb ai/A (16.5-20 oz/A Rely 280, Reckon 280, or Glufosinate 280); Spring directed, shielded spray: use 1.0 to 1.5 lb ai/A (55-82 oz/A Rely 280, Reckon 280, or Glufosinate 280)

quinclorac (Facet)

Rate 0.25-0.375 lb ai/A (22 to 32 fl oz/A Facet L))

Time Apply in fall after harvest but before a killing frost. Field bindweed should be actively growing and at least 4 inches long.

carfentrazone (Aim EC)

Rate 0.008 to 0.031 lb ai/A (0.5 to 2 fl oz/A Aim EC)

Time Apply to actively growing weeds when they are small. May be applied before seeding and up to jointing stage of crop.

Remarks See label for specific tank-mixes and adjuvant recommendations. Apply in at least 10 gal/A of spray solution. Good spray coverage is essential for control.

clomazone (Command 3ME)

Rate 0.5 lb ai/A (21.3 oz/A)

Time Apply to soil before or after seeding but before crop emerges.

Remarks Crop rotation restrictions may be up to 16 months, depending on rate. Sensitive crops include tomatoes and wheat. Some temporary chlorosis of green peas may occur. Avoid overlaps while spraying.

clethodim (Select 2EC, Volunteer 2SC or several trade names, 2 lb ai/gal)

Foliar active, only

Rate 6 to 16 fl oz/A (0.094 to 0.25 lb ai/A). See label for recommended rates on specific grass species and growth stages. Use the high rate under heavy grass pressure and/or when grasses have reached maximum height. Do not exceed a total of 32 fl oz/A per season. Does not control broadleaves.

carfentrazone-ethyl (Aim EC or several trade names, 2 lb ai/gal)

Foliar active

Rate for the preemergence timing application Up to 0.031 lb ai/A (2 fl oz/A carfentrazone-ethyl)

Timing of the preemergence application Apply during planting or up to 24 hours after potatoes have been planted. Applications must be made before the crop emerges.
