Insect Management Handbook

Psylliodes punctulatus

Pest description and crop damage Adults are about 0.083 (1/12) inch long, metallic black beetles, that when disturbed jump like a flea. Adults feed on leaves primarily in the spring causing shothole damage. Severe infestations can defoliate plants.

Management-chemical control

Do not be alarmed if you learn or suspect that structural pests may be attacking your home; it will not collapse or be destroyed. Pest management should be considered merely as another repair that may be necessary to maintain your house in sound structural condition.

Dasineura gentneri

Pest description and crop damage Small, mosquito-like insects that attack white and alsike clovers. Salmon-pink maggots develop in the seed pod and prevent formation of alsike and ladino seed.

Management-cultural control

Clipping blossoms when the first brood of midges emerges appears to help prevent damage to later blossoms.

Management-chemical control

Scutigerella maculata

Pest description and crop damage Small, white, centipede-like animals in soil. They prune rootlets and reduce stands and plant vigor.

Management-chemical control

  • The currently registered insecticides are not effective for use on garden symphylans in clover seed crops.
