Management-chemical control

  • permethrin pour-on (Gordon's Livestock Backrubber & Pour-on)-Apply undiluted product along back and down face at 0.5 to 2 fl oz per 100 lb body weight of animal up to a maximum of 20 fl oz per animal. Use as needed but not more than once every 2 weeks. Sheep only.
  • permethrin 1% pour-on (Martin's)-Apply 0.5 fl oz per 100 lb body weight of animal, to a maximum of 5 fl oz for any one animal. Repeat treatment as needed, but do not exceed 5 fl oz during any 14-day interval. Sheep only.
  • permethrin spray (Agrisel Zone-Plus, Country Vet Farmgard, Durvet Rapid Kill, Durvet Screw Worm Aerosol, Martin's Permethrin 10% & 13.3% Multi-Purpose Insecticide, ProZap Screw Worm Aerosol, and Revenge Barn & Stable)-Follow label for dosage depending on severity of infestation and spray location. Spray affected areas or entire body or bedding. Remove feed and water while spraying. Sheep and goat.
  • permethrin + piperonyl butoxide (Pyranha Stock Guard Conc. and Sector Misting Conc.)-Usage instructions depend upon concentration. Follow label for dosage and precautions.
  • pyrethrin + piperonyl butoxide (Evergreen Pro 60-6)-Sheep: Dilute at the rate of 1 to 2 fl oz (2 to 4 tablespoons) per 4 gal water and thoroughly wet all portions of the body by dipping or by spraying with sufficient pressure and with a nozzle adjustment to give penetration of the wool. Treat at a rate sufficient to wet the animal. Goats: Dilute at the rate of 2 fl oz (4 tablespoons) per 1 gal water and wet the animal by dipping or spraying. For best results, treat the animal quarters and bedding.
  • rosemary and peppermint oils (Essentria All Purpose)-Dilution: 1 to 3 fl oz per gal water or mineral oil USP. Dilute as indicated and spray directly on the animal in sufficient amounts for proper coverage. There is no withholding period from last application to slaughter. Sheep and goats.
  • sulfur (Bonide Sulfur Plant Fungicide) - Dust animal liberally and run into hair. To treat living quarters, mix 1-1.5 lb in 5 gal water and apply as a spray to 100 sq ft. Apply thoroughly to all interior surfaces of quarters. Sheep and goats.
  • zeta-cypermethrin with piperonyl butoxide-(Y-Tex PYthon Dust)-Apply up to 2 oz (4 tablespoons) of dust per animal evenly into the hair over the head, ears, neck, shoulders, back and tailhead. For spinose ear ticks, apply approximately 1/3 oz. (1 tablespoon) inside each ear. Repeat as necessary but not more often than once in 3 days. Do not make applications during rain or if there is expected rainfall before the product has sufficient time to dry (minimum 4 hr). Sheep and Goats.
