Cause The fungus Phoma sp. has been found many times by the OSU Plant Clinic.

Symptoms Stem rots, stem cankers, branch dieback and crown rot have been associated with this fungus.

Cultural control Focus on sanitation measures.

  • Avoid wounding plants.
  • Dispose of diseased plants and plant material promptly.
  • After the production cycle, remove any remaining plants and clean the growing area.

Chemical control There are no fungicides specifically registered for this crop. However, several fungicides may be effective if not phytotoxic to the plants.
